Now call me stupid if you like but I really did not expect football to be so big in Sierra Leone. I mean it’s everywhere! From billboards to clothing to buildings! Every single team under the sun! They love it!
Drive through any town and I can guarantee you will see something football related and some children kicking an old ball around on the dusty rocky dirt! The terrain doesn’t seem to deter any sliding tackles either!
The kids at the academy itself are no different, its all about the football! Even the books read in free time are football related. Its not uncommon to hear one of the boys ask to go over something with the coaches at the weekends either.
The kids are good too, I’m no football expert but even I can tell how talented these kids are. Regularly playing against much older teams these kids dominate on the pitch.
